If you desire a fresh and pristine breath while you have braces, our orthodontist, Dr. Erik TinHan, is happy to help you. Unfortunately, achieving that fresh breath can be difficult because of all the food particles and plaque that get stuck in your braces and on your teeth. The good news is that there are things you can do to achieve your goals, and our orthodontic team is happy to tell you all about them!
The first thing you need to do is keep up on oral hygiene even more than you did without braces. This means you need to brush twice a day as well as after each meal and snack. You should also floss daily (at least), but it’s better to floss the same times you brush. After you brush, scrub your tongue with your toothbrush and also rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
The second thing you need to do is visit your dentist every six months for a routine dental cleaning. This is important because the cleaning treatment will scrub every nook and cranny of your smile and braces. It will also help you prevent gum disease, which is a dental issue that has persistent bad breath as a symptom.
